Why Most AI Portfolios Look the Same (and How to Fix It)

Escaping the indigo-purple gradient trap with human, editorial color systems.

Open ten AI-generated portfolios. Nine will be from-blue-50 to-indigo-100 with a purple CTA.

It's not wrong — it's just forgettable.

A more human palette

I rebuilt this site around paper and ink:

  • Paper: #FDFCF8 — warm, not sterile white
  • Ink: #1A1A18 — soft black, easier on eyes
  • Brick: #C45A3C — primary, earthy confidence
  • Forest: #2B3D3A — secondary, grounding
  • Ochre: #D9A44A — accent, optimism without neon

Why it works: contrast is high enough for accessibility, but warmth keeps it editorial — like a well-printed book, not a dashboard.

Rules I followed

  1. No pure gradients in hero. Use texture, not rainbow.
  2. One accent, sparingly. Ochre for highlights, not backgrounds.
  3. Type does the talking. Serif headings (Newsreader) + sans body (Inter) — hierarchy without color shouting.

Try it: replace your bg-gradient-to-br with bg-[#FDFCF8] border border-[#E8E0D0] and watch the site breathe.
